Meet Kevin Michael (rt.)…and his hair. Discovered first by indie label Downtown Recordings, and now working in association with big dawg Atlantic Records, Kevin is a new soulful voice just coming into play. He’s got a big head, but only because his fro is so well maintained. Lookout for the first single called “We All Want the Same Thing.”

Manhattan keeps on making it…

First it was the Harlem Shake. Last summer it was all about Young B and DJ Webstar’s Chicken Noodle Soup [with a soda on the side.] This year, another Harlemite, Jason Fox, is bringin us some “new rap music with an old school flow” in a song called “Aunt Jackie” that comes with its own dance.

Jermaine Dupri recently signed Fox to Island/Def Jam, saying, “I think we’re seeing the life of hip hop coming back with songs like ‘Aunt Jackie.’ It’s kids acting like kids used to act when I was growing up, and I love it because to me, hip hop has been too-cool-for-school lately. It’s time for a change.”

Sean Kingston on love

Sean Kingston puts a twist on the classic “Stand By Me” track–turning it into an anthem for young, lovelorn dudes who are mesmerized by “Beautiful Girls.”
“‘Beautiful Girl’ is real crazy, “explained Kingston to MTV Radio, “I was in the studio one day and I heard Ben E. King’s ‘Stand By Me’ on the radio. I was just like, ‘Wow, I gotta sample this joint.’ Nobody did it before and I just thought that would be real cool for me to sample it and have that crossover Pop-Jamaican sound on there. Basically, I went through some stuff. I been through some situations with young love and I thought to write a song about beautiful girls out there because a lot of dudes, they see beautiful girls out there but it’s more than that. I been on a situation with a girl and she cheated on me and that motivated me to write the song.” A remix featuring the hardest working girl in the biz, Lil Mama, is also due out soon.
