Respect His Fresh

Memphis artist Kinfolk Kiashine rolled up to MTV this week rocking some of his self-designed “traffic jam” kicks. (ahem, NIKE…wake up and smell his steez!)

Shine proceeded to play us some tracks about as fly as his shoes…look out for “WOW” which stays with you long after its gone. Also, “Holla At Your Kinfolk” is another slice of lyrical insight into Shine’s life -he’s real and open about his experiences from along the way. Lastly, dude does a solid and sexy cover of the classic “Bluff City” by 8Ball and MJG that you won’t want to miss…so lookout for 6/19 when the “Due Season” album comes out. He’s got style, kicks, lyrics…and we respect his fresh.

Dame Dash debuts “Mr. Untouchable”

Your girl went to a screening last night of the new documentary about the notorious, Harlem-based drug kingpin, Leroy “Nicky” Barnes called Mr. Untouchable. Dame was on hand to introduce the film–as you know, he is also from Harlem–in fact he told the crowd he thinks of himself as the “epitome” of Harlem. [Damon is a producer on the film.] A lot of the swagger he said he adopted from Nicky Barnes, who was one of the most powerful men in the area through the early-80’s and has been referenced in songs from Cam’ron to Nas. The film, directed by Marc Levin, should be out later this summer and it’s definitely worth checking out.

There’s another film called American Gangster about a rival of Barnes coming to theatres–this one is a feature film starring Russell Crowe, Denzel Washington and Cuba Gooding Jr, with appearances by T.I., RZA and Common.

New Lauryn Hill

Thanks to Young Global, who copped this new track/remix of Lose Myself from Lauryn Hill for us…maybe Lauryn got tired of hearing so much buzz and business about Amy Winehouse? The comparisons between the ladies don’t stop and Amy’s cover of Lauryn in most shows add fuel to the momentum. Whatever the reason was that got Lauryn back on the mic, it’s all good…come back L-Boogie!

Sisqo Comeback Watch, week #3

No real moves from The Thong Song man this week, though a lot of other sites are picking our story up like it’s new. We thought we’d leave you for the weekend with one of our favorite Sisqo collabos. You gotta love the over-the-top car scene featuring the O.G. video vixen Gloria Velez. And we miss the dog, too. Where are you, X?
