T.I. takes the stage

We gave you some exclusive info about the upcoming season of “MTV Live” a little while ago and now we have some more tidbits to get you ready for the premiere this fall. Our biggest T.I. fan went to check out the T.I. performance and wrote up this review:

As torrential rain beat down on New York City, I headed to my first T.I. concert, pumped up with anticipation. His album “King” narrowly beat out Lupe Fiasco’s “Food and Liquor” as my favorite album of all of 2006, so I really was looking forward to the night. Despite numerous news headlines that I read that day talking about flights being delayed due to weather, it never crossed my mind that the self-proclaimed King of the South would be running late as well.

So my friend and I showed up at 9:30pm sharp expecting to go right in, but then we waited….and waited….and waited some more. Getting a little impatient I decided to walk around, and actually ran into T.I. on the street. Here’s what happened:

Me: Hey T.I.! What’s happening, are you headed to your show right now?

T.I.: U DON’T KNOW ME!

Me: Hahaha, always a jokester, well good luck, break a leg out there.

Actually that conversation didn’t happen at all, but you can imagine what it would be like if it did. Anyway, we finally get in around 11:30. 15 minutes later, DJ Drama came out, and announced the Rubberband man onto the stage. T.I. thanked the crowd for being so patient, and jumped right into his performance.

Very solid all around I must say, especially with how long of a day it must have been for him with the flight delay and everything. His song selection was chocked full of hits and he was full of energy. He has enough charisma to work the crowd without his whole crew onstage–I can’t stand the hip-hop shows with 9 guys on stage screaming every other word, it totally takes away from the whole experience.

My two favorite songs of the night were “Motivation” (my favorite T.I. song) and “What You Know” (is anyone else happy that Cinemax has been playing ATL a ton the past four months? I love “Big-Booty Judy”). T.I.P even gave the audience an encore by performing “Big Things Poppin’” off the new album.

All in all, great show, I strongly encourage you see him live if you haven’t already.
