Saturday, instead of attending the BET Hip Hop Awards–where he won Best Album–Clifford “T.I.” Harris was being taken into custody by a swarm of law enforcement officers. The Atlanta PD with the help of SWAT and the ATF arrested the rapper on charges of possessing a horde of unregistered machine guns and silencers as well as trying to buy some from an undercover agent.
His long-term girlfriend Tameka “Tiny” Cottle was also taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana and ecstasy. T.I. has been in an Atlanta jail this since waiting to make his appearance in federal court today at 3pm. Because Harris is convicted felon, and cannot legally own a firearm, he faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. We will keep you updated on this story.
In the meantime, we will ponder why rappers insist on committing stupid crimes like this. Hasn’t anyone learned from countless arrests of other rappers throughout the years?
1. Come on, everyone knows that in every major city there is a special police task force that keeps tracks of rappers’ movements. It’s racial profiling, yes, but as long as folks keep stockpiling weapons, associating with their old homies and giving them more of a reason to watch, they will be watching. And you’ll be getting busted.
2. If you are a superstar like T.I., why are you buying unregistered guns? If you cannot legally obtain one, why don’t you hire a licensed and bonded security team that can?
3. Ok, maybe you feel like you want to protect your family and fear for you life at times. [T.I.'s van was shot up at a concert last year, and his best friend was killed, so I can understand the fear.] That said, move your family into a gated community, get some mean dogs and a bonded security team. The money you spend will be the money you save on lawyer’s fees and bail.
4. Stop trying to be fuckin’ Tony Montana. It’s played out. People are loving Kanye right now because he’s a regular [not really, but you know what I mean] dude who talks about regular [ok, sometimes he's pretty Hollywood] stuff. He created interesting sounds, puts effort into sounding different. Remember, Tony Montana was killed in the end. And he didn’t go out in a blaze of glory, he went out like a paranoid, drug-addled loser who had ruined the lives of everyone around him. who wants to be that guy?

There’s nothing wrong with needing protection, but did he really need 9 machine guns? what is he, in a war? And silencers? Is he going to assassinate someone? Let’s also not forget that he is a convicted felon and it is illegal for him to carry or own a gun.
You can’t tell me an one man, unless he is a head of state, needs that much firepower.

I’m a T.I. fan since Trap Muzik and it’s F’d up the security snitched like that. Real talk I been shot twice (once in Iraq and the other on Spring St.) and my brother six times so i know the deal. And MTV what are mean dogs and security gonna do for automatic machine weapons from a force that hates your every existence no one will give there life for you like that, but FAMILY.
