It’s fashion week in Paris, France, and The New York Times’ The Moment blog is reporting directly from the Colette boutique. Writer Jonathan S. Paul spotted Kanye West and grabbed him for a brief interview. Check out the transcript of the convo with the Louis Vutton Don

Yeah. When I go on vacation I go to the shows: L.V., Margiella, Viktor & Rolf, YSL, Stella, Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood. A lot of fashion. I want to soak in everything. …

Kanye, what are you wearing now?
Y-3 sweater, Gap T-shirt, Dior belt (from back when Hedi was there), this [chain] is Verbal, he’s the designer, and the watch is Audemars Piguet. It’s engraved on the back, on the watch’s weight. [Removes watch to show initials K and A.] Me and my girl [Alexis Phifer, also at Colette] got matching watches. My glasses are Tom Ford — see, they say so? — and these down here [sneakers] are Adidas.
What are you doing here at Colette?
Colette is one of my favorite stores in the world. But I’m not sure if I’m going to buy anything, my credit cards are maxed.
I don’t believe you. … Hey, that jacket you wore to the Grammy Awards was totally next level. It had lights and everything. Where’d it come from?
I designed it together with my stylist. I took a shape that I liked — I can’t say who made it, but I liked it, it had a kick in the back. Under my jacket I wore a Hedi hoodie. So we put on LED lights — there were LED lights on my jacket, on the sunglasses and my scarf. I had on a pair of Nikes too, but I can’t talk about those because they’re not out yet. The lights in the jacket were powered by battery.
Do you have your own line?
My line is Pastel. I wanted to be a fashion designer since before I wanted to be a rapper. Nobody said I could be a rapper and now I’m the be-all and end-all of music. Next, I’m gonna be the be-all and end-all of fashion. If I can humbly say so myself.
