MTV News caught up with Soulja Boy in Atlanta last week, where he talked about his upcoming 2nd LP, Back To School. According to MTV News, in addition to the project, which will drop around the time students head back to school (think late August/early September), he’s also “dropping the Soulja Boy sunglasses, his own signature shoes called Yums, as well as a cartoon titled ‘Bad Little Homies’ about him and his friends. Not to be left out is the ever-essential clothing, S.O.D.s. It’s named after his record label, Stacks on Deck. On deck are his protégés the All-Stars. Topping it all off will be the Soulja Boy and Friends Tour, featuring himself and other young acts.” And this time around, he may also collaborate with more people. Soulja said:
“[This time,] I’mma look around [for tracks], whether it’s a producer like Polow or a producer nobody ever heard of. For my fanbase, people who tune in to Soulja Boy, I think a good feature would be me and Chris Brown. Soulja Boy featuring Chris Brown — my audience would be like, ‘Oh my God!”
What do you think, Soulja Boy and Chris Brown?!?! Would that be hot?!?

By this point it’s no secret that 50 Cent has kicked Young Buck out of his G-Unit camp. In an exclusive interview with MTV News, he talked about Buck’s dismissal, saying “he can be compared to Game because he did some of the same things. He went on and said he was cool with some of the people that it isn’t public I’m cool with. The public’s impression is [that] me and these people have issues. So how are you cool and we down with each other?… You can’t gauge who they are. You call them a friend for what? So tomorrow when it’s convenient for them to go in another direction, regardless what position it puts you in, they’ll just do it?”
50 also said that Buck’s outbursts in the media might have to do with the fact that he is a heavy drug abused (i.e. an addict). Fif said, “Buck’s probably high right now. He doesn’t even get high anymore — he just maintains his [high]. You have to get sober to be high. “When they say, ‘Party like a rock star,’ he goes beyond what they are talking about. Multiple, different sh–.”
Still and all, Buck will appear on the new G-Unit album, Terminate on Sight.

We all know Akon popped himself off with a song called “Lock’d Up,” where he detailed his stint in prison. And he’s talked about being involved in some notorious car theft ring, which landed him in jail for three years or something like. Well, The Smoking Gun has investigated Akon’s criminal past and they’ve found that most of what he’s put out there has been exaggerated to say the least. Their article says,
“While the performer’s rap sheet does include a half-dozen arrests, Akon has only been convicted of one felony, for gun possession. That 1998 New Jersey case ended with a guilty plea, for which the singer was sentenced to three years probation. Another 1998 bust, this one in suburban Atlanta, has been seized upon by Akon and transformed into the big case that purportedly sent him to prison (thanks to his snitching cohorts) for three fight-filled years. In reality, Akon was arrested for possession of a single stolen BMW and held in the DeKalb County jail for several months before prosecutors dropped all charges against him.”
Hmm…. interesting. I can believe it though. This is the entertainment business, after all. Either way, who cares. Just make hit records. Keeping it real is so 1996

Bet you didn’t know that the American Gangster, Frank Lucas, had a son appropriately named Frank Lucas Jr., who is an aspiring rapper. And while Jr. contends that he’s just trying to get along in life, and make moves with his career in the entertainment business, the NYPD just won’t leave him alone. The New York Daily News is reporting that he’s suing the New York City for $25 million for what he claims was a bogus arrest, use of excessive force and harassment at the hands of police at an incident on Staten Island last month.
Apparently, Lucas Jr. was stopped by police while riding in a car with his manager Gene Ragusa. After the cops saw Lucas’ name, they instantly recognized him as the elder Lucas’ son. Lucas Jr’s lawyer Salvatore Strazzullo said, “He’s been tainted by his father’s mistakes. The whole time they’re saying, ‘Look who’s here, the ‘American Gangster.’”
So after finding residue of weed in the car, they charged Lucas and his manager with misdemeanor possession of marijuana in the fifth degree, which isn’t much of a charge when you think about it. But the two men did spend two nights in jail, which definitely ain’t no fun.

Since her debut single with DJ Webstar, “Chicken Noodle Soup,” became a teen dance craze in the summer of 2006, Young B hasn’t been heard from much. Despite being heavily featured on Webstar’s album, Caught In The Web (2006), the project failed to move any units, and without another breakout hit, Universal Republic dropped Webstar and his label from their roster.
In the time that has passed, Lil Mama and Teyana Taylor have both come out in full force repping for Harlem and for the kids, while Young B has been written off as a gimmicky one hit wonder. In fact, Teyana Taylor now gets more attention for Chicken Noodle Soup than B does, because the word put out there is that Taylor actually created the dance, not B. Having said that, the two femcees are friends, but B has no love for Lil Mama. In an extensive interview with Sixshot.com, Young B says:
“… Teyanna, she’s cool. That’s my friend and she’s talented. She has a different style though. She’s more of a pop—she’s different but she’s cool. Lil’ Mama—really no comment. She’s more of a rapper like hardcore rapper. She’s not like me. I’m girly and I like bags and heels… I’m making my own identity for myself. I was labeled as a group with DJ Webstar. So first Lil’ Mama came out and then Teyanna and they were already by themselves. It was them and no group. So that’s what I have to make myself now—a solo artist.”
Currently, Young B is spreading the word on her new single, “Where My Girls At,” and prepping the release of a new DVD reality series, Lights, Cameras, Action!
